Field Trip to
Vulcan Materials Company

April 24, 2007

posted May 3, 2007

On Thursday, April 25, Vulcan invited Mrs. Reilly and Ms. Fehlhaber to bring their 6th grade classes to tour the facilities. As our partner in education, they generously offered to cover the fee for the bus. Prior to the visit, both classes learned about rocks and minerals. Seeing the process first-hand was exciting and educational.

Letters from the Students:

Dear Vulcan,
You guys rocked (get it?) It's awesome how you guys re-use the materials to save things! It's also interesting seeing what our pavements, streets, sidewalks, and household items are made of before the finished product. I'm positive that EVERYONE would appreciate you guys (and girls).

Thank you.

Dear Mike and Jeff from Vulcan,
Hi, I would like to thank Mike and Jeff for giving us a full tour of what you guys do. My dad works for the SDCS district as a heavy equipment operator, so I knew a lot about tractors and other things. But what I didn't know was that big rocks were crushed to smaller ones, then smaller and later into sand. So thank you for the tour.
