  1. CHEERLEADING IS COMING TO WANGENHEIM!!!  6th & 7th graders interested in becoming a Wildcat cheerleader next year are invited to come to an information meeting on Monday March 15th from 2:30 to 3:00 in the school Multi-Purpose Room.  Flyers available from your home room teacher.  Show your school spirit and BECOME A WILDCAT CHEERLEADER!!!
  2. Congratulations to the Wildcats of the Month for March: Varun R, Jennifer H, Kiana T, Tiffany L and Marquis C.  They will be going out to lunch with Mr. Jackson.  Way to go Wildcats!  (Ms. Sloan)
  3. BOWLING.....BOWLING....BOWLING…..at the Mira Mesa Bowling alley on Thursday, March 25th.  Yep, that's right, bowling from 3-5 pm.  The cost is $5 and includes unlimited bowling and a comfortable pair of shoes to use.  Tickets can be purchased during both lunches and also in Mr. Grendziak's room, 412.  See you there!!!!  (Mr. Grendziak)
  4. We appreciate all of those who have turned in their consent forms for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-a-thon.  You will not only be helping the children of St. Jude's Hospital, but each of you will benefit as well.  This week you will be working on the Math-a-thon problems.  This will help you become better at math.  Most importantly, the money you collect from your sponsors will make you feel proud knowing you are helping to give children with serious diseases a chance to live.  (Mrs. Esmende)
  5. Wangenheim will be having its Family Math Night on Thursday, March 18 from 6 - 8 pm in the Media Center.  Bring your family for a night full of fun, math games, food, and prizes.  Ask your math teacher for more information.  (Ms. Esmende)
  6. Costume glasses are not allowed at school.  Students may only wear prescription glasses or sunglasses with a doctor's note.  (Ms. Sloan)

  5. CHICOS Y CHICAS DEL CLUB DE ESPAÑOL, our meeting for Thursday, March 4, is canceled.  Our next scheduled meeting is Thursday, March 11. Mark you calendar.   1. Run/Walk Club:  1st meeting on Thursday, Mar. 4th, 2:30 p.m., Room 411.  (Mr. Resovsky)
  2. Students are not allowed to take lanyards out to PE.  They must be locked up in your PE locker during PE class. (Ms. Sloan)
  3. The Junior Student to Student (JS2S) Social Club will be meeting every Wednesday in Room 403 starting on February 24th, 2010 from 2:30 to 3:30.  The JS2S would love to meet the new students of Wangenheim and we would love to see old friends as well.  Students will have the opportunities to socialize, play games, listen to music, dance and make new friends.  See Ms. Moreno for details.  (Ms. Moreno)
  4. ID cards are required to check-out library books. Need an ID card? New students: please see Ms. Wilson in the library during advisory for an ID card.  Replacement cards: pay $5.00 to Finance and then bring the receipt to Ms. Wilson in the library for a new card.  (Ms. Wilson)

  1. Mira Mesa counselors will meet with 8th grade students on February 16 in their English classes.  Students will receive a course request form to take home and discuss with their parents. On February 18 Mira Mesa counselors will return and meet with each student.  Scripps Ranch High counselors visit Wangenheim on March 12.  Students who articulate to SRHS will meet in the auditorium and receive course request forms to be completed with their parents.  SRHS counselors will return on March 15 to meet individually with students who have returned their forms.   2. 8th Graders:  Mira Mesa High School's Jr. ROTC will be visiting our school during both lunches on Tuesday, February 16th. They will perform and talk with students. (Counseling)
  3. Requirements to attend the ASB Spring Dance:  Between February 10 and the Spring Dance, students must have no suspensions, 5 or fewer periods of ISS, 5 or fewer tardies, no truancies.  An I.D. card is required.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  4. Requirements for the 8th Grade Dance:  During second semester students must have no suspensions, 5 or fewer periods of ISS, 5 or fewer tardies, no truancies.  An I.D. card is required. The 8th grade dance is held at the Officers' Club at Miramar in June.  More info to follow.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  5. Congratulations to Omar P for placing fifth in San Diego County in the Elks Lodge Essay contest!  He answered the question "What is the American Dream?"

  1. Valentine Dance is on Wednesday Feb. 10th from 2:25 - 3:45.  Tickets will be sold on Wednesday during both lunches and at the entrance to the dance at 2:15.  YOU MUST HAVE YOUR ID TO BUY A TICKET.  Tickets cost $4.00. Remember, if you have more than 5 tardies since the last dance, you will not be able to attend.  (ASB)
  2. Valentine Grams will be sold on the lunch court during both lunches on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Grams will be delivered on Thursday.  The cost is $2.00.  Send a gram to that someone special in your life!!!!  (ASB)
  3. Congratulations to our Wildcats of the Month for February: Suzette L, Marc A, Allison H, Brian A, Hao D.  They will going out to lunch with Mr. Jackson
  4. .There has been chronic gum chewing occurring on campus.  We’ve notice a tremendous amount of gum on the ground.  Please leave your gum at home.  Thank you.  (Mr. Strom)
  5. Students who video record fights and post them on YouTube will be suspended.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  6. Due to safety concerns starting Monday, February 8th the Flanders Gate will be Locked.  Please make other arrangements with your parents for pick up and drop off.  (Mr. Strom)
  7. Please help keep our campus beautiful by picking all trash when you see it weather or not it was your trash.  We do it as administrators to model what good citizens do.  Please learn from our actions.  (Mr. Strom)

  1. The following students passed the screening for the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair to be held in March.  This is no small achievement!  Barath A, Samantha A, Summer B, Evan B-W, Leiana B, Ben C, Hy C, Rachelle C, Jimmy H, Rahul M, Fyesah N, Kristina N, Nimo N, Nhi Q, Nicole T, Jasmine W.  Congratulation!  (Mr. Resovsky)
  2. The Yearbook class is now selling space in the 2010 yearbook for BABY PHOTOS!!!!  We have set aside space for 72 photos!  There are over 400 8th graders, so don't get left out!  Take home the envelope and bring back $10 cash or check and your photo.  Super easy!  Give them to your Advisory teacher and Yearbook will pick them up.  (Ms. Hinojosa)
  3. Sketchits Art Club starts Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, at 2:20, in room 109.  Meetings will be held the 1st Tuesday of every month.  Come by and draw with us.  (Mrs. Keneally)

  1. Our weekly drawings will now be held on Friday afternoons.  The winners will be announced over the intercom at the end of the day.  Good Luck!  (Mr. Jackson)
  2. The PTSA will be serving Hot Chocolate to all Wangenheim PTSA Student Members from Room 111 every Friday in January and the first Friday in February at 7:00am.  If any student would like to join the PTSA please pick up a PTSA Flyer in the office.  (PTSA)
  3. The nurse’s office has loads of unclaimed jackets as well as odds and ends, i.e. hats, belts, lunch containers, sleeping bags, pillows, retainers, keys, and scarves.
  4. 8th Grade Students:  Counselors are continuing to do 4 year plans this week.  You will receive career information, high school requirements and receive college information.  This is a district requirement for all 8th grade students.  You need to come on your assigned day which your advisory teacher will review.  The Mira Mesa High School counselors will visit Wangenheim in February, and the Scripps Ranch High School counselors are coming in March.  You need this information before their visits. (Counselors)
  5. Dress code reminders:  As stated in the planner, "Clothing can not be ripped, cut or shredded."  Therefore, jeans with holes in them are not permitted.  In addition, they are considered inappropriate.  Also remember, hats are not allowed even when it is cold or raining.  You may wear a hood to keep warm or use an umbrella to keep dry. (Mrs. Sloan)
  6. The school has the right to search you at any time.  The law is called "In loco parentis" and it means that when you are at school, the school can act as your parent.  So just like your parents can search you at any time for any reason, the school can search you at any time for any reason.  Do not bring anything inappropriate to school.   8. Drink Pouch Brigade” members - Everyone who drinks Capri Sun, Kool Aid, or any other drinks in foil pouches, please keep recycling and “Respect the Pouch” by depositing empty pouches (remove the straw) at lunch in the RESPECT THE POUCH BOX on the lunch court (located under the BLUE and YELLOW Wildcat Way Raffle boxes).   Winners of last week’s raffle will be drawn Monday at Club Live and winners will be sent a pass to get their prizes!!!  Thanks for respecting the environment and helping Club Live!!!  (Ms. Peterson)
  9. Purchase your 2009/2010 all color Yearbook in the office for $35.  (Ms. Hinojosa)
  10. All students are required to have their planners with them every day.  Periodically, I will be checking planners in the lunch line and asking you to go to the end of the line if you do not have your planner or if it is not filled out properly.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  11. Popsicles are on sale after school on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for $1.00.  You can find us by the Math Lab door.  Thanks to all of you last year who didn't litter and properly disposed of your trash!  We hope this will continue this year. (ASB)

  5. The Celebration of Girls & Women in Sports is on February 6th at SDSU. Come out for a fun day filled with an Aztec Women's Basketball game and an opportunity for K-8th graders to play with SDSU's women's athletic teams and talk to the student athletes about competition, maintaining good grades and working hard. The pre-game all-sports clinics start at 11:00 AM. The women's basketball game vs. New Mexico starts at 12:30.  The Aztec women are on the brink of national ranking. It will be the greatest one-day, all-sports clinic there is out there for young girls, regardless of ability level. This is a great family event or parents can drop-off groups of students at the arena. Everything's free, except parking.  See Mrs. Sander to reserve your tickets.  You must contact her by Monday, January 25th to order the free tickets.  See the flyer in the Girl's Locker Room for additional details.  (Mrs. Sander)

It's not too late to purchase an 8th grade ad!  The ad is the size of a business card and can include up to two photos.  Baby photos are a fun way to see how you have changed!  You can share it with a friend and chose a photo of each of you!  The cost is $30 and can be purchased in the office with Ms. Alvarez.  Printing of the yearbook starts soon so act fast!  See Ms. Hinojosa for more details.  (Ms. Hinojosa)

  1. Congratulations to Dacia B who was selected to appear in the San Diego premier of the Broadway musical “13, A New Musical.”  The musical runs from January 16 – 31 at the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza.
  2. Dress code reminder:  As stated in the planner, "Clothing can not be ripped, cut or shredded."  Therefore, jeans with holes in them are not permitted.  In addition, they are considered inappropriate.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  3. Pantsing other students in the locker room or during PE is harassment.  If you are caught pantsing you can and will be suspended from school.  Please remember to be a responsible and respectful Wangenheim citizen.  (Mr. Strom)
  4. CHICOS Y CHICAS - Looking for a place to hang out with your friends, practice your Spanish, play games and learn about Hispanic culture?  Please, bring your lunch and a friend to room 603 this Thursday, January 14.  We will have a first and second lunch information meeting.   5. If you have any inappropriate photos on your cell phone you must erase them immediately.  Students with inappropriate photos on a cell phone at school will receive severe consequences.  Don't take any chances.   1. Wangenheim's annual Spelling Bee will be Friday, Jan 22. If you are interested in participating, please see your English teacher for a list of words to study. The school winner will go on to compete in the county spelling bee.  (Ms. Fehlhaber)
  2. Students may wear Santa hats to school this week.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  3. Wangenheim is conducting a Canned Food Drive: Students, collect through your Advisory class.  We will be raffling off a donut party.  Ask your Advisory teacher for details.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  4. Monday, January 4, 2010 will be the last day to return books without a fine.  The Library will plan to start assessing fines the next day.  The fine is $.05 per day.  (Library)

  1. 8th GRADE EAST COAST TRIP students:  Remember your See's Christmas candy orders are due to Mr. G on the 9th.  He will put together the order and pick up the candy on Friday, the 11th.  After school on the 11th you will be able to pick up your orders.  (Mr. Grendziak)
  2. The Winter Dance is on Thursday, Dec. 10th in the activity room from 2:15 - 3:45.  Wristbands will be sold AT THE DOOR for $4.00.  The DJ will be giving away some cool prizes!  Come and have some fun before the break! (The ASB)

  1. On Dec. 16 during 6th period, a photo will be taken of the entire 8th grade class.  Students may choose to wear bright colored clothing to stand out in the photo, wearing school colors will look the best (blue, yellow and white).  If you are out of dress code, wearing hats or flashing any hand signals, you will be blacked out of the photo.  The students will form the number 2010.  Don't forget!  (Ms. Hinojosa)
  2. Join the Drink Pouch Brigade!  Please bring your empty drink pouches (Capri Sun, Kool-Aid, etc) to the Club Live upcycle bins at the lunch court this week!  RESPECT and UPCYCLE* "The Pouch"!   5 empty pouches= 1 raffle ticket (raffle prizes provided by CLUB LIVE)*  Upcycling is reusing what is traditionally seen as waste, and repurposing it to create environmentally-friendly products.
  3. Club Live meets every Monday - both lunches - Room 403 - get a pass from staff or a teacher!  No pass needed if you have been at least once this year!  Play games, make musical instruments, do art, kick back... it's up to you!  (Ms. Peterson)
  4. Holiday Sock Tree:  This will be Wangenheim's 15th annual Holiday Sock Tree!  It is located in the Counseling Center and all students and staff are asked to bring NEW socks and/or NEW toys to either your advisory class or the Counseling Center.  The socks will be tied into bows to decorate the tree and on December 18 all the socks and toys will be taken to the Polinsky Children's Center and given to children who aren't going to be with their families for the holiday.   Thank you for helping us make the holidays a little brighter for those not as fortunate as ourselves.  (Mrs. Porter & the Counseling Staff)
  5. Lady Wildcat Flag Football. Today, Monday November 30th will be the last practice ( 2:30-3:15). The roster for next Saturday’s San Diego City Schools middle school girl’s tournament will be posted in the girl’s locker room tomorrow morning.  (Coach Cann)
  6. We need every one to do a better job of cleaning up after themselves during lunch.  Please make sure all garbage goes in a trash can and all recycling ends up in one of Coach Cann's shopping carts or blue bin. Let’s keep our school clean.  (Mr. Strom)

  2. Steven C (8th Grade Advanced Science student) is conducting an experiment involving the weights of student back packs.  If you would like to participate, see Steven outside of the counseling center every morning (11/16-11/20) from 7:00 – 7:20 a.m.  (Mr. Resovsky)
  3. Cookie dough distribution will be on Wednesday 11/18 after school in the activity room from 1:30 - 4:30 pm.  PLEASE pick up all your cookie dough!  The school doesn't have any cool storage space.  If you have a large order you will need to have your parents or a buddy to help you carry all your boxes.  (ASB)

  1. WMS Students and Staff:  I appreciate everyone taking time last Friday to help me celebrate the counseling office dedication in my name.  Wangenheim students, my family thought you were all very polite and well behaved.  (I said, "Of course, they're WMS students....THE BEST!)  The WMS band and chorus played and sang beautifully...you brought tears to my eyes.  I look forward to seeing everyone around campus as I volunteer in the office and with the PTSA.  Thank you for a day I will never forget.  ;-) Susan G. Porter-Wangenheim Counseling Secretary 1977-2009.
  2. Recycling...A great big Thank You to all the Students and Staff that have been supporting the Wildcat recycling Program. The first trip to the Allen Recycling Company on Saturday October 27th generated $270.00 from the bottles and cans collected on campus. If you haven't joined the Wangenheim PTSA yet, you still have time!!  If you join before October 30th, all PTSA students will be entered into a drawing for an IPOD Shuffle and drawings for Movie Tickets.  All Student PTSA Members will have pizza for lunch on October 30th on the lunch court.  (PTSA)
  5. All Halloween costumes worn on Friday must be appropriate for school.  No midriffs showing.  If your costume has a short skirt, add leggings to it. No fake weapons of any kind.  Anyone with an inappropriate costume will have to call home for a change of clothes.  If you are not sure about your costume, please ask me about it on the lunch court this week.   • On Tuesday your "Lucky Duck" certificates will be collected on the lunch court during both lunches.  We will have a raffle for Jamba Juice cards and battery operated ducks!  Bring your certificates to the lunch court on TUESDAY!!!!  (ASB)
  • The ASB will be sponsoring a Halloween costume contest on Friday, October 30.  Wear your costumes to school.  Remember to follow the dress code rules.  Hats that are part of a full costume are okay.  Masks must be taken off while in class. No fake weapons.  Costumes must be appropriate for school.  Examples of inappropriate costumes are Playboy bunny, pimp, gang member, etc.  There will be great $$$$$ prizes for the winners.  (Mrs. Garrett)

  • Thank you for following the new lunch procedures for football and spectators.  One more new change, we are going to allow soccer every Wednesday instead of football.  Thanks for your understanding.  Remember, no food or drinks in the spectator area.  (Mr. Strom)
  • Cakes and giant cookies are not allowed at school.  If you want to bring treats for your friends on your birthday you may bring individual cookies with no frosting.  The reason for this is that unfortunately some students make a mess with cake and frosting.
  • The Wangenheim late bus will be starting this week. On Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The bus will depart at 3:25. No late bus on minimum days.  (Mr. Strom)
  • The Recycling Club will meet today Monday, October 12, at 2:20 outside of room 403. We will be discussing our end of the month Recycling Activity.  New members are welcome...see you at the meeting.  (Coach Cann)
  • Kiana Oakry, Kristy Huynh and Molly Meas are running for ASB President!  You will see their posters around campus and can meet them on the lunch court.  We will have a school wide vote next Friday during your advisory class.  All three are GREAT candidates, but it's up to you to decide who you want to represent you!  (ASB)

  • Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated during the week of Oct. 19-23.  ASB is sponsoring a poster contest.  The three best posters with anti-drug messages will win prizes:  1st place will win $30, 2nd Place - $20, and 3rd Place - $10.   Submit posters to Ms. Moreno by Oct. 19th.  Please show your school spirit and your commitment to a drug free lifestyle by participating in the themes of that week.  Those dressed according to the theme and wearing the red ribbon provided to you will receive a raffle ticket from your advisory teacher.  Fifteen names will be drawn to win a pizza party hosted by ASB and Ms. Moreno.  Red Ribbon Spirit Week will begin on October 19th with the following themes:

    Monday:  “Dreams come true when you are drug-free” – Wear Pajamas
    Tuesday:  “The Future is too bright to do drugs” – Wear bright colored clothing
    Wednesday:  “Too smart to start” – College Gear

  • New football and spectator rules for lunch.  Students that want to watch the lunch football game must stand between the 700 building drinking fountain and the old lunch building.  No food or drinks will be allowed in this area.   • All students are required to have their planners with them every day.  Periodically, I will be checking planners in the lunch line and asking you to go to the end of the line if you do not have your planner or if it is not filled out properly.  (Mrs. Sloan)

  • Popsicles will be on sale again this year after school on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for $1.00.  You can find us by the Math Lab door.  Thanks to all of you last year who didn't litter and properly disposed of your trash!  We hope this will continue this year. (ASB)

  • CLUB LIVE meets every Monday during both lunches in room 403.   4. The only kind of glasses that students are allowed to wear at school are prescription glasses.  No costume glasses, please.  (Mrs. Sloan)
  5. The Wildcat Way word of the month is respect.  You can show respect for your teacher and classmates by listening in class and talking when it is your turn.  (Mrs. Sloan)

Starting tomorrow students may sign up for book lockers.  The first group to be issued lockers will be students with a 3.5 GPA in academics or citizenship, students with at least one proficient or better on the CST and students with a medical necessity.  Please bring your last report card, CST score paper or a doctor's note or note from the school nurse to Ms. Alvarez in the main office before or after school.  Students who have lost their report cards or test scores will be in the next round.  (Mrs. Sloan)

  4. PE UNIFORMS and LOCKS:  may be purchased in Room 111.  Cost is:  $10 for t-shirt, $12 for shorts and $13.00 for sweatshirts & sweatpants and locks cost $5.00.
  5. Please note that the Wangenheim campus is monitored by video surveillance.  The cameras are monitored by school police 24 hours a day.  Do not come onto campus on the weekends or after hours.  The cameras are also monitored by school office personnel.  If there is an incident on campus we can rewind the tape to see what happened.  Please be on your best behavior.  (Admin.)
  6. Students, you are responsible for ALL information posted in the school bulletins even if you are absent and even if your ADVISORY teacher forgets to read the bulletin.  The bulletins will be posted in every classroom.  If you are absent you can check the bulletins posted in the classroom or you can check the Wangenheim website.  If your teacher forgets to read the bulletin, please remind him or her.  (Mrs. Sloan)
