NOTE: This is a theory session designed to assist learners with the planning and design of a secondary master schedule. This is NOT a technical session. Computers are not involved during this session.
Length of Class: 3 hours
Intended Audience: Administrator and Head Counselor
Purpose: The following topics will be discused during this session:
- Gathering of Information from Teachers
- What is a preference-request-demand?
- Gathering of information from students
- What is the timeline for the process?
- Who is going to be involved and what role?
- Who makes the final decisions about process ?
- How are parents going to be involved?
- What worked previous year? What didn’t?
- How will enrollment be managed?
- How will process integrated CHOICE students?
- What is a “year-long” class (dot-2)?
- Creating a list of goals and prioritizing it (the upside down triangle concept)
- What does a master schedule map look like?
- Teacher names and periods
- Course titles and numbers
- Teaming information
- Section numbers listed (this may seem unnecessary but the “button clickers” need the section numbers for use with different grouping strategies – it helps if the admin team takes ownership of this task
