Frequently Asked Questions
Process for piloting a new course
Is your site interested in piloting a course for the 07-08 school year? Are you interested in using a course number that is currently being piloted by another site? These types of requests must be approved by the ICC. Please see the Other Materials section of the Read&Learn page for ICC forms and a calendar of ICC meetings!
Charter schools do not need to contact the ICC to pilot a new course. SAA has provided instructions and a course request form to assist with this process.
Articulation issues
Certain secondary schools such as DePortola Middle and Farb Middle
follow articulation patterns that are unique. These sites have traditionally
worked with the Enrollment Options office to determine which site
the incoming student should be pre-enrolled in.
Enrollment options will still be involved in this process. Please
contact Enrollment Options if your site has a unique feeder pattern
and you have questions regarding the articulation process.
The Mann, Kearny, San Diego, and Crawford complex high schools face a
similar issue due to their unique design. We are asking the Principals
from each of these small schools to develop a plan for handling the
distribution of the incoming 9th graders.
CBEDS courses
Staff members such as prep time teachers, testing
coordinators, administrative interns, and department chairs need
a 9000 CBEDS course assigned to them in your master schedule.
Not all certificated people who do not teach a full load need a
CBEDS course assigned to them. Principals, vice principals, nurses,
librarians, and counselors do not need CBEDS courses in your master
schedule.
The rule of thumb is if a certificated staff member can be placed
in a code category on the 9900-series code list AND has a full time
non-teaching assignment or is a teacher with a release period to
perform a non-teaching task, then a 9900-series
course is entered in your master schedule. A list of 9900 series codes can be
found in the Master Schedule Editor application within Zangle.
For example, a full-time non-teaching integration resource teacher
would require a 9900-series course on the master schedule, as would
a teacher who is a math department chair with a release period to
perform department chair duties. If the teacher has an assignment
that falls into a 9900-series code category but does not have a release
period to do the task, then a 9900-series code is NOT put on the
master schedule.
Please place the CBEDS course in the Period 1 slot and make this
course year long. You only need to assign one CBEDS course for the
staff member. If the staff member teaches a period 1 class, then
place the CBEDS course in the next available period (for example,
period 2).
If the staff member has a dual assignment (e.g. Literacy administrator
and math administrator) then place one CBEDS course for EACH of the
assignments. All courses can be placed in period 1 concurrently.
Please contact Gary Knowles at gknowlesATsandi.net if you have any
questions regarding CBEDS courses.
Dates/times for master schedule classes
The dates and times for the 06/07 Master Schedule training classes
have note been confirmed. We will notify the site master schedule team members as soon as the dates are available. You will be able to use the Master Schedule web application to register your Master Schedule team for classes. There is a
link at the top of the page where you can download a training calendar
with dates, times, and locations. Classes will be held at the
Fremont Training Center. Click
on “Learn” to download driving directions to either location.
A staff member must be added to your master schedule team before
you can register them for Master Schedule training classes.
Adding a staff member to your master schedule team
We have received requests for directions on how to add a staff member
to your master schedule team. A staff member must be added to the
team before they can access the Master Scheduling web-application,
register for classes, or send emails using the communication tool.
Staff members can be added to your Master Schedule team by your
Zangle site contact or power user only. You will use the Zangle Training
Scheduling application to complete this task. Your site contact or
power user is your site tech or other staff member responsible for
registering your staff for the original Zangle training classes.
